Background pictures are easily abused. I’m still trying to find the perfect one. I took a shot of my floor – it’s warm, not distracting, not too bright. Might stick with it.
As for apps, a few more third party apps have been promoted to my home screen. Messages, Calendar, Photos, Camera is the only line that hasn’t been violated. Textie is pretty close to killing Messages, most people I text have Textie anyway so it’s perfect. Plus the send button isn’t right next to the keyboard.
There’s a big bucket of fun stuff in “Utilities”. Weather, Clock, Stocks. I can’t say enough nice things about My Measures. It’s the kind of app that makes me giddy when I think about how awesome and clever and perfect and useful it is (I’ve been renovating a house). TestFlight has me super excited, should make other developers really happy. Mint keeps track of my money, because I’m lazy. calvetica is really interesting, I think the visual design is still up in the air, but the interactions put Calendar to absolute shame. Words with Friends is the shittiest app I tolerate. I have to force kill it after every few moves. It sucks sucks sucks but is fun. I don’t use iMovie much but play with to remind myself that we’re living in the future.
The new Instapaper icon makes me really happy. I use and love Reeder on iPad, and even though it FINALLY has a proper black status bar on the iPhone, Byline still feels right. It’s something about tan.
I prefer iBooks because it’s so pretty, but Kindle has a much better selection. The new Simplenote is fantastic, but I really miss the old lined-paper icon.
Twitter kicked iPod out of my dock. Even though it’s three blue icons in a row. Yeah. It’s blue. Deal.
