For the most part I keep my home screens organized by type of application, with some screens only getting a row or two on them.  The exception is the first screen though, where I like to keep a mixture of apps I use daily, apps I’ve worked on or am currently testing, or other generally useful apps like calculator so I know where to find them when I need them.  For some reason I also despise having a fourth row of icons, I feel much more at peace when there room to breath between the apps and the dock. The fourth row is also the most constantly changing area of my iPod, I’ll move apps there that I’m currently working on, enjoying or like showing off.

The dock has the apps that I open more than once a day, except mail which I quite like at the top left of the homescreen for easy access and the unread count doesn’t stick out as much. Music keeps me entertained and when I have wifi I’m most likely to be checking the web with Safari. Although I don’t tweet a ton, I often check Twitter with Twitterrific to keep in the loop on what’s happening. Then on the right of the dock, Things has all the lists of what I’m actually supposed to be doing instead of checking Twitter and browsing the web.

In the main area of the homescreen I keep the ‘just in case I need them’ Apple apps, except for Clock which has my morning alarms in it and Photos where I keep test mockups and other pictures. Then there’s Tris on the end of the second row. It seems that no matter what other games I play, Tetris is just always great fun and I was lucky enough to get Tris before it left the App store. Unlike the official Tetris app, it loads quick and gets right to the game to most efficiently waste my time.

The third row starts off with Brushes, which is a fairly new addition to my homescreen. I generally have my sketchbook with me so I haven’t really felt the need to use it, but I’m finding it a lot of fun to poke around some digital paint when I have a few minutes rather than breaking out a quick game.

The last three apps are all games I’ve developed at the Iconfactory with the other designers and programmers there. Frenzic was developed with Artis Software and is in a similar vein as Tris as a quick and enjoyable puzzle game when I have only a few minutes that I want occupied. Ramp Champ and Pickin’ Time are not only fun games, but also what I launch when people ask me what I work on for the iPhone.

And that’s my homescreen!
