Mistaken Identity

When interpreting information (such as logos), scientists have actually discovered that we recognize shapes first, then color and then the content within a micro second. That’s probably why I sometimes have trouble spotting the Reeder icon on my iPad since I’m so used to the tan color used in both the Mac and iPhone icons.

Reeder's identity

It’s a pet peeve of mine, but I feel all icons should be the same across all devices. I don’t understand the reasoning behind having different icons for the same app.

Reeder’s not the only one with this issue, the official Twitter app does it as well. The iPhone uses the aqua blue color that we all associate with Twitter, but the iPad has a dark grey, almost black, background color. Gowalla, as well, but at least they use orange as the primary color in both icons, so it’s not too hard to find on either device.

It’s not really that big an issue, but just something that annoys me a little. Sort of like how Loren Brichter gets irritated when the status bar does not match the app itself.
